The CEO of the Angolan LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Project, António Orfão, presented Wednesday in Yeosu (South Korea) the above-mentioned undertaking, during a conference called "Angola LNG – from vision to reality".
The event was witnessed by about 80 guests, mainly representatives of countries attending the Expo 2012, South Korea and Japan businesspeople in the petrochemical field, members of the Angolan Commission for Expo, commissioner Albina Assis Africano and other officials.
Being Angola LNG one of the main focuses of the country’s participation at Expo 2012 with the motto "Angola: Sustainable Development, our commitment”, the conference was intended mainly to emphasize how the project brings together the development and benefits offered by natural gas, reduction of burn and emission of greenhouse gases, social development of communities and environmental protection.
During the presentation, António Orfão stated that the project will produce 5,2 million tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas per year, and supply butane gas for domestic use, thus turning the country self-sufficient.
It will also provide 125 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, designed to generate electric and petrochemical energy.
He also underlined that the project will boost development in the 14, 15, 17, 18 deep water blocks, with integrated solutions to the burn of gas and promotion of environmental protection and compliance with existing oil legislation.
According to him, in providing an attractive commercial alternative regarding associated gas burn, the project places Angola on the vanguard of the countries committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Based in Soyo city, northern Zaire province, Angola LNG will start producing natural gas late in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Angola LNG follows a partnership involving BP Exploration (13,6 percent ), Chevron (36,4), ExxonMobil (13,6), Sonangol (22,8) and Total (13,6).
