Soji Awogbade
Soji is the managing partner and head of the energy practice of AELEX Legal Practitioners & Arbitrators, a full-service commercial and litigation law firm with one of the largest energy practices in West Africa.
For over 34 years, Soji's major focus has been upstream and midstream petroleum issues. He continues to advise major, independent and marginal field operators on the legal, regulatory, commercial, fiscal and environmental aspects of acquisitions, divestiture and operations. The power industry with its focus on gas as the main fuel is increasingly becoming another active area of practice. He advises, negotiates and drafts contracts on production, transmission and distribution transactions. He has also been involved with drafting legal instruments for framework changes to the sector.  Soji has been an international director and co-chair of the host countries subcommittee of the AIPN, and has previously been active as an officer in the section on energy, environment and natural resources law of the IBA.  Soji is a frequent speaker at international oil and gas and environment seminars. He is ranked in Band 1 by Chambers Global in its 2012 ranking of Nigerian energy and natural resources lawyers.

Otunba Funsho Lawal (OON)
Otunba Funso Lawal, OON, holds a B.Sc and M.Sc from the University of Wisconsin-Madison USA. He joined CitiBank Nigeria in 1985, where he rose to the position of Assistant Vice President before joining Oceanic International Bank as a pioneer staff.
He is the executive chairman of Sogenal Oil & Gas Company, an indigenous oil exploration and production company which has been successful in pioneering indigenous technology in the offshore terrain of the oil & gas industry.
Otunba Funso Lawal is also a prominent member of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and sits on the boards of Prime Trust Insurance, Rosenthal Trust Limited and Brian Information Technology Company.


Egbert Imomoh
Mr Imomoh, a founder of Afren, was previously Managing Director and Executive Chairman of Afren Energy Resources Limited. He successfully led the growth of Afren’s Nigerian asset base, established a number of successful indigenous partnerships and achieved the First Oil milestone at the Okoro Setu project.

Prior to establishing Afren's Nigerian subsidiary, Mr Imomoh served as Deputy Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (Nigeria), one of Shell Group's largest operating companies. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and has served on its board as Regional Director for Africa.






Wale Tinubu is the co-founder and CEO of Oando Group; an oil conglomerate with operations across Africa. He graduated with a law degree from University of Liverpool in 1988 and later obtained an LLM from The London School of Economics where he specialized in International Finance and Shipping. Afterwards, he attended law school in Nigeria and was called to the Bar. He started his career with his family’s law firm, K.O Tinubu & Co, where he focused on corporate and petroleum law. In 1994, Wale and two of his friends (Mofe & Jite Okoloko) founded a company called Ocean & Oil Limited that focused on the supply and marketing of petroleum products.Today, the company, now known as Oando Plc has branched into offshore oil exploration and has expanded to countries like South Africa, Togo and Ghana (Oando has about 500 gas stations). Oando became the first Nigerian company to be listed in the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.


Theophilus Danjuma

Danjuma's political career began as Chief of Army Staff for one year during Olusegun Obasanjo's first reign as Head of State following the assassination of General Murtala Muhammed (Feb. 1976 - Oct. 1979). Also, under Obasanjo, Danjuma served as Nigeria's Minister of Defence from May 1999 until his voluntary retirement in 2003.
Danjuma is reputedly the owner of South Atlantic Petroleum, a major stakeholder in the Akpo oil and gas field off the coast of Nigeria. Concurrently Danjuma is a major benefactor of the oil-field's $2.3 bn sale to China's largest offshore oil producer, CNOOC, in January 2006.
