Dr. Yankey Sipa

As earlier reported on Tuesday, the 11th of this month, that Ghana's gas company steps in to tackle the challenges facing its power sector, reports reaching us also shows that the gas company itself is facing its own challenges to face as there are critical hurdles to cross.

While the company's chief executive Dr. Sipa Yankey has made it known that his outfit is working around the clock together with the finest locally sourced expertise to complete the processing aspect of the gas plant come end  of the year, it was also gathered that country's oil wells stands risk of damage if processing plant faced any bit of delay.

Meanwhile the gas components of the Ghana's oil field are being re-injected back into the wells currently as the country lacks the necessary infrastructure to process the gas for now, however due to the governments determination to commercialize the county's gas resources, it incorporated the Ghana Gas Company in July last year, charged with the responsibility of building and operating gas infrastructure required for processing and marketing of gas potentials for the country.

The CEO noted that the company was following strict standards to ensure the that the project is been delivered on time and of high technical standards, while also reacting to a publication which questioned the modalities for procurement for the project, where conflicting interests were pointed out on part of the company executing the project, he explained that the project execution was led by a global consortium headed by Sinopec, which is under an Engineering Procurement Construction Commissioning Contract, which places the responsibility for engineering supervision and sub-contracting for works and goods solely on the head of the consortium which is Sinopec.

While also reacting to an accusation that one of the directors of the company executing the project is also also a director of the company supplying the goods and services to the contracting company, he explained that the project is a turnkey project and Ghana has no responsibility in the selection of sub-contractors in the works execution.

About 85% of the $1m gas processing project is being funded by a $3m loan contracted from The Chinese Development Bank, while the remaining percentage which is 15% is funded by the Ghanaian Government.
