Uganda and China are boosting the air transport sector as a result of growing trade between them, as the demand for direct flights shoots up, migrant workers for the oil exploring companies are also in demand for the direct daily flights.
Migrant workers in the oil industry comprise of Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis and Lebanese, who move back and forth, said the Emirates Airline's manager for Uganda, Khalid al Zarouni, at the launch of a daily direct flight flight from Entebbe International Airport to Washington, US.
Between 8,000 to 9,000 Ugandans reside in Washington, noted Zarouni, saying the flight was important to Uganda for its import and export trade.
He also noted that Traffic from the US was growing rapidly, hence a new aircraft has been allocated to this route.
The current fares being charged are $1,130 for economy, $4,200 and $8,500 for business and first class respectively.
