CEO Ghana Gas Company Ltd, Dr. George Sipa Yankey

Come end of this year when the Ghana Gas Company starts it operation, power challenges facing the country will be squarely tackled says the company's boss.

Due to problems affecting gas supply from the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company to the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Sunon Asogli plant, the country has experienced a shortfall of 300 megawatts of power in load shedding.

He said Ghana will derive benefits from the form the gas project, which includes gas to power Takoradi Thermal Plant at a much lower cost, which will also induce job creation and reduction in electricity tariffs when it starts operation.

Dr. Yankey however said the difficulty been faced now will be brought to the barest minimum because gas will be pumped to the thermal plant in Takoradi 24 hours a day.

With the power challenges tackled, industries will now be able to produce at fairly lower cost and thus create employment opportunities for all.
