Dr. Andy Uba, a serving senator and Chief Chibuike Achigbu, an oil magnate have been ordered to be arrested and investigated by a chief magistrate Court in Abuja on Tuesday for their involvement in the $15 million bribe offered them by the convicted former Delta State governor, James Ibori.
Ordering the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar, Chief Magistrate G. O. Okagu issued the order, due to a Direct Criminal Complaint brought against them by a Lagos based lawyer, Festus Keyamo an Human Rights activist, the court however gave the IGP up till 26th of September to report back t the court with his findings after which the duo of the senator and the oil magnate might be put on trial.
Festus Keyamo however premised his application on an earlier one filed at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja by Achigbu, where he claimed the money belonged to him, Achigbu claimed he gave the money to Senator Andy Uba for the sole purpose of financing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) back in 2007 for the general election.
However , Achigbu had filed a motion to discontinue the application, Keyamo who is an Urhobo from Delta State, said he filed the Direct Criminal Complaint against the duo because of his resolve to protect funds belonging to his state by fighting corruption.
