The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says efforts will henceforth be intensified in the protection of its oil pipelines through effective collaboration with security agencies to checkmate vandalism, the acting Group General Manager (Public Affairs), Mr Fidel Pepple, said this on Thursday.
Pipeline vandalism is becoming a big challenge he said, therefore we are going to collaborate with both the communities and security agencies to curb the act.
It was said that NNPC needed the assistance of both the security agencies and the host communities to tackle the problem, stating that it was also the responsibility of people living in communities along the pipeline route to ensure protection of the pipeline, which he said was in the communities best interest to do whatever can be done to protect the national endowment.
He however noted that NNPC had engaged the service of private surveillance agencies to secure the pipelines, while expressing worry over the killing of three NNPC staff at Arepo by vandals, stated that the repairs of the vandalised line will commence once security of the place for workers to start is confirmed by security personnel.
