Sources have it that for more than a week now the oil-rich South Sudan has been experiencing fuel shortages leading to increase in cost of transportation.

Fuel stations had long queues, while in the whole 10 states that make up the country, most fuel station tanks were empty.

According to a government source, the current predicament is caused by the by the delay in off-loading fuel supplies at Mombasa, Kenya, said the undersecretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining, Macar Aciek.

Delays in pumping fuel from Kenya's port of Mombasa through pipelines to Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisumu, where fuel companies load their supplies has been the main cause of this shortage.

However the South Sudanese authority have assured their citizens of being on top of the situation,  but fuel dealers in the country have rumored that the shortage was due to lack of hard currency in the commercial banks which is as a result of the decision made by South Sudan to stop exporting crude through neighboring Sudan.

Also there have been reports that government lacks the necessary funds to manage the affairs of the state appropriately, meanwhile crude exports will resume after the Sudanese and South Sudanese states brokered agreement at the on-going peace talks in Ethiopia.
