Our sources have it that Statoil has started drilling its latest appraisal well on the Johan Sverdrup field in the Norwegian North Sea license PL265, within 75 days the semisubmersible Ocean Vanguard is expected to drill well 16/2-14 to a planned TD of 1,960 m (6,430 ft) subsurface, according to their partner Lundin Petroleum, the aim is to appraise the crestal part of the structure, and to determine the quality and thickness of the Jurassic-age sandstone reservoir on the structural high between appraisal wells 16/2-8 and 16/2-10.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has authorized Wintershall Norway, in the same region of the structural high, to drill a wildcat in PL 457, with locations 3km (1.8mi) north of the Lundin operated Edvard Grieg field and 3km (1.8 mi) east of the 16/1-9 Ivar Aesen (ex-Draupne) oil discovery well.
