Latest polls have shown that majority of the Japanese people want exit of nuclear power as soon as possible, however a new strategy will be unveiled pretty soon to determine the future of nuclear energy industry in which three options are being considered; zero nuclear energy as soon as possible, 15% nuclear energy by 2030, and 20-25% nuclear energy by 2030.
This however will be a big change in direction from the earlier plan in 2010 to boost Japan's nuclear energy to cater for more than 50% of its energy needs by 2030.
In the coming week, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will decide on the new strategy to adopt, but admitted that one of the policy been considered is the exit of the Nuclear Power as proposed by his Democratic Party for Japan.
However, Japan's business elite fear that abandoning nuclear energy could escalate costs and push companies abroad, antinuclear protestors however feel abandoning nuclear will create new business niche in areas such as renewable energy and energy efficiency.
