| Gov. Uduaghan |
Delta State Governor, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan said oil-producing communities in the state received a total of N149 billion within the last five years.
He said this in Asaba when paid a courtesy visit by members of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The amount was released via the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, the agency which executes developmental projects in oil producing areas.
The gov. stated that having been advised by RMAFC that 13% derivation be used for the benefit of oil producing communities, it has helped to ensure peace reigned in Delta, because when oil communities are developed there is peaceful environment for production of more oil.
Contrary to speculations, he said, Delta State was not misusing the derivation fund, as 50% of it is been remitted to DESOPADEC, which has its headquarters in Warri, being a major oil producing
area.
DESOPADEC membership was drawn from the oil producing communities and they identify and execute the projects they deemed fit to do. As at last month since the start of this present administration, a total of N149billion has been released.
