Oando Plc shareholders have expressed great sense of confidence in the company's ability to deliver significant improvements in the delivery of electricity if selected as the bid winner.
Having recently submitted bids for the acquisition of PHCN distribution companies (Discos) in the on going privatization programme, bidding for the Eko, Ikeja and Ibadan Discos.
Reinforcing the confidence of the company's shareholders, Mr. Sunny Nwosu, National Coordinator, Independent Shareholders Association, stated that he was confident in the managerial capacity of the group and that their track record speaks for them, stating that Oando was capable of turning the fortunes of PHCN around , in the same way it did with Unipetrol which was then an erstwhile government-run fuel retailing business.
Alhaji Musa Shittu another shareholder, said Oando has always relied on sound technical partnerships in the development of its energy platform, which has enabled its emergence as a leader in the different areas of the energy sector in which it operates.
Shittu further added that, the issue of power in the country was that of a national emergency which required the expertise of only companies with the such pedigree, as politics should not be allowed to intervene in this process.
With over 260,000 Nigerian shareholders, selling PHCN to Oando is akin to selling it to the citizenry, while been pleased with the transparency of the Bureau of Public Enterprise and the National Council on privatization in the PHCN bid process thus far, the shareholders hope the transformation of the power sector will be championed by indigenous and publicly held companies such as Oando.
