Reports reaching us says Saudi Aramco and France's Total have started testing their new refinery located at Jubail in the Eastern province on the Persian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia, thereby raising the prospect of full operation of the USD 14 billion facility ahead of a scheduled start up operation in the 3rd quarter of 2013.
The boilers for Saudi Aramco Total Refinery and Petrochemicals Company has been fired up at the plant which was designed to reduce Saudi reliance on imports and also meet the rising fuel demand.
The company hopes to bring the first of the two crude distillation units online before the year runs out. We also heared that the new facility could be in full operation by 2nd Quarter.
Aramco relies heavily on imported gasoline and gasoil and plans to boost domestic refining capacity from 2.26M barrels per day to 3.5M barrels per day hopefully by 2016.
