Volkswagen XL1 will be starting its hybrid production probably by 2014.
Having made debut at the 2011 Qatar Motor Show, industry insiders say that VW might trot out the car at a late-2013 auto show, with the first production version ready for sale in 2014.
The version that was displayed in Qatar was a 240-mpg hybrid diesel that weighed just 1,700 pounds and sported a carbon-fiber body.
The gull-wing doors, inset rear wheels, and rear view camera system all mark the car as unique, its expected price is guessed to be over $100,000 range.
